Due to an executive order from the President to streamline the import and export process for America's businesses issued on February 19, 2014, the U.S. Census Bureau and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are migrating the AESDirect system into the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) single window platform. The transition phase for exporters officially began in November. For business purposes, all will need to make the transition. The U.S. Census Bureau wants as many people and businesses switched over by the end of February.

Please note shipping lines have announced congestion surcharges if there is a strike, lockout, work stoppage, or labor related disruption for any US port on or after May 1st. The US West Coast is of the utmost concern as the ILWU will start contract negotiations on May 12th. Their contract expires June 30th and if they do not come to an agreement by June 30th on July 1st there will be a work stoppage which will cause these increases to take place. Members of Unifor and the United Truckers Assocication reached an agreement with Port Metro Vancouver and the governments of British Columbia and Canada to end the 28 day work strike at Port Metro Vancouver and return to full operations March 27th, 2014.
