Port congestion along the US West Coast builds as labor slow downs continue. This has caused some shipping lines to cancel pre-existing bookings while other lines are not accepting any new bookings.
The Oakland terminal was completely shut down today due to the death of an ILWU employee, but should be open tomorrow, though still with the continued labor slow downs.
The congestion is also causing major equipment problems inland and in Vancouver as imports are not being unloaded. This in turn is causing severe equipment shortages.
The good news is that the congestion surcharge has been cancelled. However, we suspect that in the next couple of weeks shipping lines will announce a new congestion surcharge, giving 30 days notice.
