Due to an executive order from the President to streamline the import and export process for America's businesses issued on February 19, 2014, the U.S. Census Bureau and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are migrating the AESDirect system into the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) single window platform. The transition phase for exporters officially began in November. For business purposes, all will need to make the transition. The U.S. Census Bureau wants as many people and businesses switched over by the end of February. There will be a small period in which both the legacy system and the new system will both be available for use. Afterwards, more and more critical functionality will be retired from AESDirect and instead be integrated into the ACE platform as the months go by.
The functionality of the current AESDirect application available at aesdirect.census.gov, referred to as Legacy AESDirect, will transition into ACE in:
· Fall 2015 for Web, EDI and AESPcLink filers
· Early 2016 for AESWeblink filers (specifications are forthcoming in October)
